At Centre-Ice of Construction Safety
There’s something that leaves you in awe when you are brought to centre-ice of a brand new arena in the Niagara Region – the enormous, high-tech Meridian Centre in St. Catharines,
Ontario.
With my new hard hat, boots and safety vest on (right), I spoke to the construction crews and senior management of Ball Construction and Rankin Construction, the partners in this joint venture. I was there on their last day of heavy work on the project, so we were celebrating!
But there was also an air of caution and understanding; the construction industry has a higher risk level for personal injuries than other occupations. Jason Ball, president of Ball Construction, remarked:
“We are proud of the work done by all of our team members. We just completed a rigorous 18 months of COR Safety Certification. This systematic approach to success will help lead to better productivity and safer job sites.”
To compliment the Jersey of Courage we brought from MySafeWork to the jobsite, Ball and Rankin Construction offered branded hockey pucks at the event (left).
I was delighted to spend time with the amazing crews of Ball and Rankin Construction – all of them wearing proper protective equipment, including being tied off for climbing heights, such as shown in this image, during the lineup to sign the jersey.
