Pleasant Beach Road Retaining Wall Reconstruction
A shoreline revetment was constructed along Pleasant Beach Road to protect the area from future erosion and preserve the integrity of the coastline.

Rising lake levels in Lake Erie have caused significant damage to its shoreline, leading to widespread erosion, property loss, and infrastructure damage. The increased water levels, driven by climate change and altered precipitation patterns, have intensified wave action and reduced the natural buffering capacity of beaches and dunes.
In 2024, Rankin was contracted by the City of Port Colborne to complete the design and construction of a new shoreline armourstone revetment along the Pleasant Beach Road right-of-way. The existing shoreline and adjacent private property was eroding rapidly, and required a permanent solution to address concerns.
During the project’s initial stages, the design and approvals for the new armourstone revetment were completed by Rankin Coastal Engineering Inc. and approved by the City and governing agencies. Following the completion of the in-water restrictions, Rankin began and completed construction of the shoreline protection in the winter of 2024/2025 to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
This project has been considered a success, and will provide the principal and adjacent properties with the required protection from future storms and heightened weather events.
