Hydroelectric
Hydroelectric energy harnesses the power of moving water to generate electricity. By capturing the kinetic energy from flowing or falling water and converting it into mechanical energy through turbines, hydroelectric systems provide a clean, renewable, and reliable source of power with minimal environmental impact.
We have been a strong contributor to Ontario’s renewable energy sector, particularly in the field of hydroelectric generation. Demonstrating innovation and technical excellence, Rankin has constructed three separate hydroelectric generating stations along the Welland Canal. These facilities were designed to re-purpose waste water flowing through the canal’s lock system, efficiently capturing untapped hydraulic energy and converting it into sustainable power. This work underscores Rankin’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and advancing renewable energy infrastructure within the Region.
Wind
Wind energy converts the natural movement of air into electrical power through the use of wind turbines. As the wind turns the turbine blades, mechanical energy is transformed into electricity by a generator, producing a clean and renewable source of energy with zero emissions and minimal environmental footprint.
We have been at the forefront of wind energy development across Ontario, playing a key role in advancing the province’s renewable energy infrastructure. Within the Niagara Region, Rankin has contributed to the construction of numerous wind farms, providing expertise in civil works, foundation construction, and site development. In addition to supporting external projects, Rankin proudly owns and operates two of its own wind farms located in Wainfleet and West Lincoln, reinforcing our long-term commitment to sustainable energy and local investment in renewable power generation.
Solar
Solar energy captures the power of the sun and converts it into electricity through photovoltaic (PV) panels or solar thermal systems. As one of the most accessible and sustainable forms of renewable energy, solar technology provides a clean and efficient means of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering overall carbon emissions.
We have a growing interest in the solar energy sector and continues to integrate renewable solutions into its operations. Several of the company’s buildings and properties are equipped with solar panels, harnessing sunlight to generate clean electricity and reduce environmental impact. This proactive approach reflects Rankin’s broader commitment to sustainability and to leading by example in the adoption of renewable energy technologies.

GO Station Precinct Redevelopment Project
Rankin Construction was contracted by the Region of Niagara to complete the GO Station Redevelopment project in the Western Hill district of St. Catharines, ON.
This project is a culmination of four different projects including the removal of the existing CN Rail bridge, reconstruction of a new bridge structure, construction of a round-about and access roadways into the GO Station, and reconstruction of the GO Station parking lot.
