What will my role be?
The Project Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of heavy civil construction projects from mobilization through completion. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in both an office and active construction site environment and will play an important role in keeping projects organized, documented, on schedule, and moving forward. Experience with bridge, structural concrete, transportation infrastructure, or other heavy civil construction projects is strongly preferred.
As a Project Coordinator, you will:
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with the day-to-day coordination and administration of construction projects.
- Review project drawings, specifications, contract documents, and applicable project requirements.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, forecasting, and progress reporting.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, materials, equipment, and project documentation.
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change documentation, site instructions, and other project correspondence.
- Assist with quantity take-offs, measurements, progress quantities, and preparation of payment documentation.
- Track project costs, quantities, production, and schedule performance.
- Assist with procurement and ensure materials and subcontracted work are coordinated with project schedules.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records, drawings, reports, and correspondence.
- Attend project meetings and assist with preparing meeting minutes and following up on outstanding action items.
- Coordinate with owners, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, field personnel, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with change orders, extra work documentation, and tracking of potential project changes.
- Conduct regular site visits and work closely with field supervision to understand project progress, upcoming work, and potential issues.
- Assist with quality control documentation, inspections, testing requirements, and project turnover documentation.
- Support project health and safety requirements and Rankin Construction’s commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Assist with project closeout, deficiency management, as-built documentation, and final project records.
- Perform other project coordination duties as required.

The successful candidate will be willing to get out on the project, understand what is happening in the field, communicate with the construction team, identify problems early, and help the Project Manager keep the project moving forward.
You should be organized, dependable, technically capable, willing to learn, and comfortable taking responsibility for assigned portions of a project.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 2–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, preferably involving bridges, structures, transportation infrastructure, structural concrete, or similar projects.
- Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license: Your ability to reliably travel to various job sites—often located in rural or high-traffic areas—is crucial to staying on schedule and being available when needed.
- A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quantities, and contract documents.
- Practical knowledge of heavy civil construction methods and sequencing.
- Experience working with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, consultants, and owners.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to identify issues, follow through on outstanding items, and work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related project management applications.
- Experience with construction scheduling, estimating, document control, or project management software is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario construction standards, specifications, and contract administration is considered an asset.
- Experience with MTO or municipal infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
Work Environment
This position will involve a combination of office and construction site work. Candidates must be comfortable working around active heavy civil construction operations and travelling to project locations throughout Ontario as required.
